Having a lazy evening at the cafe, next to me is this group of teens, doing a great job with polluting the once quiet ambiance with their laughter and imitated americanized accent. It's fun to eavesdrop for a while, but over time it just becomes some how annoying.
One thing that I can't understand about them is that they are pretending to be something they are not, criticising about how weird Arab people look in their traditional black and white muslim dress codes, when they are Arabs themselves.
I've got a friend who refused to come to terms that she's chinese, and another who wished she wasn't Indian, claiming she can't get a job due to her skin colour. No doubt there are racism in many places, but detesting it ourselves doesn't really make things any easier. There's been times when I walked down the streets in England with kids making funny noises joking about my skin colour, but I'm still proud of my heritage.
Face the facts, we are what we are, unless you bleach your skin like Micheal J. If these people do not change their mind sets, they will still wake up each day, look at the mirror and be miserable. Either that or they could just live in self denial.
